FABIS (Friends of Acquired Brain Injury Survivors) is a charity supporting adults living with acquired brain injury (ABI), including traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumours and brain infections etc. Every 90 seconds, someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury. Many survivors live with “hidden disabilities” such as fatigue, memory difficulties, changes in concentration and emotional challenges. These difficulties may not always be visible, but they can have a profound impact on everyday life. Life after an acquired brain injury can also be incredibly isolating. FABIS was founded by volunteers who recognised how important social connection, friendship and opportunities to step away from the challenges of everyday life can be for survivors and their families. We work to create positive experiences and meaningful opportunities for adults living with ABI and their carers. Our activities include subsidised holidays, day trips, social events and community activities, helping survivors and their families rediscover joy, confidence, friendship and companionship.
